Nathan-The Midway State Saturday, 16th August, 2008
This month, Nathan Ferraro, lead singer of Toronto band The Midway State, gives us a run down of what's on his ipod playlist currently. Their debut album Holes was released in July through EMI in Canada and Interscope in the US.
The Knife "Silent Shout"
We started listening to The Knife while making our new record. We'd listen to it while driving home every night around 2am, when you're barely awake and kind of in a daze. Their music is super eerie and gives you that feeling in your gut that only the best music does. This is my favorite song by them.
Rihanna "Disturbia"
Unfortunately, a lot of the time the radio is so cookie cutter that its hard to stomach. However, the odd time you get lucky.... like when I first heard Disturbia. I think this is such a great song and I especially love the pre -chorus. Also, if you haven't seen her video for this tune yet do yourself a favour and check it out. Its the best thing since.. like... Thriller.
Emily Haines "Doctor Blind"
A mutual friend turned me onto Emily's solo records about a year ago and since then this song has crept up into me. Thats kind of what all her music has done to me. It waits patiently in its place until I find it flowing through my headphones night after night after night. It fits really well with the late night scenery I’ve become far too accustomed to.
Sigur Ros "untitled 1"
Sigur Ros have become my favorite band in the last few months. Being a musician and songwriter I'm constantly analyzing music. Sometimes this takes the "joy" out of listening to music completely. The reason I love Sigur Ros so much is because their sound is so beautiful, I never analyze their records. I'm able to just listen.
Led Zeppelin "When the Levy Breaks"
Our drummer, Daenen, has slowly made me appreciate this song more and more. You wouldn't think it but When the Levy Breaks, thank to Daenen Bramberger, has had a lot of influence on our new record.
