Following her biggest UK tour yet in Feb/March, Kate Nash will release new single "Merry Happy" on 24th March (new release date) backed with 3 new tracks over two x 7"s and one CD. These collectible formats will be numbered and limited to 1000 copies each. "Merry Happy" is a quintessential pop song, sweetly uplifting in melody with "ba-ba" harmonies, reflective lyrics shunning over-blown notions of love and romance with observations of the simple things that make us happy Ð like the killer Kate couplet "dancing at discos/eating cheese on toast" - and of the heart-break survivor bouncing-back "I can be alone, yeah/I can watch a sunset on my own". In its live form "Merry Happy" is often the anarchic end to the live set, ending in a piano-pummeling climax.
2008 has already been an action-packed year for Kate. While the rest of us braved the post-festive winter-blues, Kate and band headed state-side for the American release of "Made Of Bricks" (8th January on Geffen) and was welcomed with open arms and a whole heap of critical acclaim for her stellar debut. Not only that, it has already sold an impressive 50,000 in 4 weeks. Check out performances of "Foundations" CBS's Late Show with Craig Ferguson and NBC's Conan O'Brien on YouTube.
After gigs in Toronto, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles it was off to New Zealand and Australia for the Big Day Out tour where, amongst other highlights (swimming with sharks?!), Kate was joined on stage by Billy Bragg on more than one occasion and "Pumpkin Soup" is shaping up to be a huge radio hit down under. "Made of Bricks" is in its 26th week in the UK charts with sales upwards of 450,000 copies.
The first issue of Kate's My Ignorant Youth fanzine is now available in select venues and shops around the country while Issue 2 is in the works. |
